Ceiling Cat is one of the earliest known internet memes dating back to 2003 when the original photograph of a ginger cat peering through a hole in the ceiling was submitted to FunnyJunk. Many variants of this image appeared on 4chan's /b/, or random board, using the "cat in a hole" exploitable in a number of ways.
